The Journey of the Soul
THOU WILT SHOW ME THE PATH OF LIFE . . .
"In Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures forever more." (Psalms 16:11)
Do you realize what a great thing that is? There are so many who are confused--who do not know the way--who do not know what life is all about. Truly this life is a wilderness and the way through, impossible without a guide. But God says, "I will make a way in the wilderness." (Isaiah 43:19)
Not only does God make a way for us, but the way He makes is a path of joy and peace. Does this seem incredible as you struggle with the conflicts of life? Well, the Word of God promises this in so many places that it is unmistakable.
But how does one achieve it? The answer lies in the passage quoted above. "In thy presence is fullness of joy." The New Testament quotes this Psalm in 2:28. The Greek text reads as follows: "You have made known to Me the way of life, you have filled Me with joy with your presence." The word, "joy," here also means a sense of well-being and tranquility of mind.
God's message to us, made crystal clear in the coming of Christ, is this . . . Life is a wilderness, a jungle of frustration and disappointment; of sin and death. Satan lies in wait with snares and deceptions. God has given us a guide in the person of His Son, who says, "I am the light of the world: He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12)
Our life then is a journey of the soul (the inner self, mental and spiritual). If we see life in terms of the development of the soul, then all of life's experiences become for us instruments for the perfection of the soul. But if we ignore the soul and attempt to achieve happiness through making a better life for ourselves on the earth, then we will have missed the whole meaning of life. We will find ourselves lost in the wilderness, imperiled constantly by its pitfalls and snares.
There is a way through the wilderness:
It is a path of joy and peace.
It is found by following Christ
in the journey of the soul.
